Colm Morris FDC Group: Football, Community and the Pitch to Office Journey
At the heart and centre of communities across Ireland, FDC Group exists as an organisation fuelled by a cooperative ethos and deep loyalty to rural Ireland. For decades, the Group has served individuals, families and businesses, furthering the goals of over three generations of clients. With longstanding staff members cultivating enduring relationships with clients, FDC proudly serves generations within the same families and businesses.
One constant exists within all FDC employees. They care about their community. They choose to be a part of an organisation that not only facilitates this value, but furthers and supports local initiatives to create better, happier, more connected lives.
Colm Morris knows what it means to represent something bigger than himself.
Colm Morris is the FDC Group Area Manager in New Ross. Before that, he spent 14 years playing senior intercounty football with Wexford, captaining the team to the All-Ireland Football Semi Final in 2008. The values he carried on the pitch, showing up, committing to the team, staying rooted in the community, are the same ones he brings to his work at FDC Group every day. We asked him four questions to find out more.
Colm Morris FDC Group: Four Questions
What’s it like looking back on your time playing inter-county football with Wexford?
I look back on my 14-year career with fond memories and a great sense of accomplishment and pride in competing at the highest level in senior intercounty football. It has been a privilege to represent my county and captaining the team to an All-Ireland Football Semi Final in 2008. We were very unfortunate as a group of players not to have won a Leinster Football championship, but hopefully we will see Wexford win one in the years ahead.
Beyond the matches, what has GAA given you in terms of community and connection?
The GAA is built on the local clubs and community spirit. I have been lucky to have had a relatively injury-free career and have represented my club Castletown Liam Mellows as an adult player for almost 30 years. There has been great joy within the community with the on-field successes that our club has had particularly in recent years.
That same community-first mindset is something Colm carries directly into his day-to-day work at FDC Group’s New Ross office.
How does that same sense of community show up in your work at FDC Group?
Employees support each other in the workplace, and the office team is driven by common objectives, deadlines and above all, providing a service to our network of clients. Our clients and staff in the New Ross office would be from various counties such as Wexford, Kilkenny, Waterford and Carlow which always throws up interesting GAA chats and helps to build staff and client relationships.
What does it mean to you that FDC Group is sponsoring Score Beo this championship?
With over 53 FDC offices nationwide and over 550 employees, this sponsorship shows FDC’s commitment to supporting the GAA and connecting with communities across the country. Score Beo is a fast-growing GAA app used across the country, and it is great to see FDC supporting the championship season.
FDC Group has been part of communities across Munster and beyond since 1973. With over 550 staff across 53 offices, the firm works with farmers, families and business owners on everything from tax and accountancy to financial planning and agri consultancy. The Score Beo sponsorship is a natural extension of that, putting FDC Group at the heart of one of Ireland’s most community-driven sporting competitions. Find out more about FDC Group at fdc.ie.
