FDC Southern is proud to support the Galway Hospice Foundation through the FDC Payroll Initiative.

Galway Hospice was established on November 3rd, 1986, through the culmination of efforts of local doctors and nurses who came together with a view to developing hospice services for the people of Galway city and county, as no such services existed there at the time.

FDC Group is proud to offer its support to such a deserving cause. All employees of FDC Group have the opportunity to donate a portion of their weekly wages to charity. These donations go into the FDC Charity Fund, and each company within the group chooses a charity to receive a donation annually. This year, FDC Southern were proud to put forward Galway Hospice Foundation and present the cheque to representatives from the charity.

Through extensive volunteering efforts, the Galway Hospice Foundation grew exponentially for many years. The foundation continued to meet the increasing demand for hospice services in the area.

“The only criteria for admission to the service is need.”

From humble beginnings, the service has grown into an extensive consultant-led multi-disciplinary service that currently looks after over 1,000 patients per year and demand for its services continues to increase. The team are caring for more people than ever before, for longer and with a greater range of illnesses and complexity of needs.

The foundation goes to considerable lengths to enable people to live as well as they can with a life-limiting illness, creating environments where families can have the space, peace and time to make positive, lasting memories.

The only criteria for admission to the service is need.

Galway Hospice provides its service to its patients and their families, when and where they need it, free of charge. This is a direct result of the phenomenal support of the people of Galway, who have supported the service since the beginning, raising over €40 million which has been invested into care for some of the most vulnerable in our community.
